We all know that feeling-the sinking feeling we have inside when we look in the mirror and feel bad about how we look or who we are. The feeling of why me or poor me. Or that ever so dreadful feeling of comparing our life to the lives of people around us or the people we see on TV. 

When things aren’t going well in our life and we feel bad about who we are, we can often find ourselves comparing our life and what we have to other people. In that moment, we are looking through the eyes of “I don’t have what I want.” And unfortunately, that never gets us what we want. 

I know this feeling all too well. I have always wanted more in my life. I’ve wanted to create more, be more and accomplish more. And that drive for “more” often has me looking at where I currently am compared to others. But, comparing ourselves to others will never make us feel good about who we are or give us what we want. Because when we are in the moment of comparing ourselves to others, we are outward focused. We are not focused on taking action and doing things that will propel us forward in our own life.

So, how do we stay positive and feel good, even when things are “not going well”?

The answer is simple, but it’s not always easy to do. It takes practice and conscious effort. We must be willing to make a different choice as to what we are focusing on and giving our attention to. We need to look at the things about ourselves and our life that we do feel good about. Whatever it is, if we want to “feel good” about ourselves and our life, we must continually focus on things that feel good to us. 

And most importantly, we must focus on taking actions that are aligned with what we want to create in our life. This week, practice taking actions that are aligned with what you want to create and then once you’ve taken an action in the direction of your dreams, even if it’s a small one, “indulge” in the good feeling of having completed it. 

For the next 7 days, make a conscious effort to spend your time focusing on creating your life instead of paying attention to others. The beauty of focusing on our actions and focusing on what feels good to us, is that when you are in the “feel good” energy, you will naturally attract more positive energy. If we are in positive energy, we attract more positive energy. If we are in a negative state, we attract more negative energy or see all the negative things around us, which bring us back to “feeling bad”.

When things aren’t going great in our life, we must be willing to focus our attention and energy on what feels good, what we do have and what we are grateful for. It’s the only way to turn the tides of negativity into positivity and create more of what we truly desire. There’s no shortcut. But the good news is that it is an absolute. When we focus on good, we create more good. When we focus on the negative or what isn’t working, we create more of that. The choice is always ours to make and that is the beauty of life. It’s ours to create!
