A Healthful New Year
by Drs  Maura & Jessica Roan

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

boardwalkWe’ve all heard the expression before, but when it comes to our life and health are we heeding the clear wisdom of this statement? Are you allowing old habits to keep you from attaining the goals in your life? Many of us talk of the changes we’d like to implement in our lives but what we say we want and what we consistently do are often times two very different things. We say that we want a fit, healthy body, but we’re committed to staying in bed that extra hour in the morning rather than working out. We say that we want financial freedom, but we’re committed to spending freely and not saving for the future.

Think for a moment about where you were last year and what you wanted in 2006. Think for a minute about the goals you most likely had for yourself. Are you happy with the progress or changes you’ve made?  If the answer to this question is no, firstly, you are not alone and secondly, the good news is that 2007 can be a completely new experience for you.  This new year can and will be different if you are willing to embrace change, as an important lesson in life. Change is going to happen and it is one of the few things in life we can really count on. Since it is unlikely that you’re able to control the situations or people around you, the most significant thing you can positively change is you.

The people who succeed in attaining their goals do more than want them. They are the people who have a clear sense of what they want, have a plan of action, and who commit to implementing the necessary changes.  Success occurs when we’re committed to consistently doing things that move us toward our goals.

Our lives are full of choices. Where is the road of your choices leading you?  Do you live your life on a roller coaster ride of feeling good one day and then feeling lousy the next? If so, I encourage you to make a commitment to changing your health care routine. It may not be easy; however, change is necessary to create better results and for you to be healthier than ever before.

As chiropractors we are interested in natural ways of improving health.  The chiropractic lifestyle encourages better health through better living and better lifestyle choices.  Chiropractic care is an approach based upon the body’s natural ability to heal itself, and is a very important step in a commitment to optimal health.  Chiropractic care can help achieve the natural health we deserve if we commit to learning more about our body and take all of the necessary steps to stay well such as eating well, thinking well (positive thinking and affirmations) and moving well (getting adjusted regularly and exercising).  Our health, just like all the other areas of our lives, is the result of the choices we’ve made consistently.  For a while you may get away with cutting corners without seeing any immediate detrimental results. However, much like planning for retirement, a few months without savings might not impact your nest egg vastly, but over time your failure to invest will leave you short in the end.

Take a moment to reflect on your life and on your health. Do you wish things were different?  With relentless focus and the commitment to changing your ways, know that things can be different.  You can be the newer, improved version of yourself.  Make 2007 the healthiest, happiest, and most prosperous year ever.  Make 2007 magical, abundant and joyful.  Make it the year you do something different so you can have that different result!
