3 Easy Tips for Staying Focused on the Good

3 Easy Tips for Staying Focused on the Good by Sheila Callaham | #AspireMag

If you’ve heard of “The Secret” then you understand the Law of Attraction and the meaning of like attracting like. But did you know it all started with Plato in 391 B.C.?

We all know how much better we feel, and how positive our outlook on life is, when we focus on what’s going right in life. Sometimes we can feel challenged, especially when surrounded by naysayers, or when life unexpectedly throws us into a tailspin. One way to stay focused on what’s going right in our life is to remember that how we feel boils down to the energy of thought.

Kudos to Plato

Plato coined the law of affinity in 391 B.C. when he claimed that likes attract: earth to earth, water to water. Over the years, Plato’s law of affinity evolved to what is now known as the law of attraction. You may have heard about the law of attraction in the best-selling book, The Secret, which reveals how every thought you have throughout every minute of the day creates your reality. This is why it’s especially important to remain mindful of how you use the power of thinking: keep it positive because thoughts create energy that attracts more of the same.

Optimism versus pessimism…

Just think about the people around you. Have you ever noticed that optimistic people continually have good things happen to them while pessimistic people continually experience negative outcomes? Think of highly successful people that you admire. The firm belief that they will achieve their goal is the foundation for their success. You may think of it as luck or synchronicity, but it’s a universal law that’s always in motion. Your thoughts create your reality.

Who better than Oprah Winfrey to cite as a diplomat for the power of positive thinking. Her quotes include:

“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.”

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”

“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.”

“The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams.”

Oprah advocates positive thinking and gratitude because she knows the power that thoughts can have in your daily experience. Positivity is exactly the vibration you want to emit, because that is how you can attract more of it into your life.

But how do you do that every day?

Three easy tips for staying focused on the good

1. Watch your words! Don’t allow yourself to say negative things about yourself or anyone else. Words are the result of your thoughts, so when you feel something negative about to emerge from your mouth stop, check your thoughts, and shift to something positive. Not sure how to do that? Consider this little trick: “Wouldn’t it be nice if….”  When you think about what would be nice to see, have, hear, experience then your thinking shifts and so does your energy.

2. Visualize what you want. In your mind, you can be anything, anywhere, and you can feel great! Visualization is a powerful tool and it only takes a few seconds of visualizing something positive to shift your energetic field.

3. Keep a gratitude journal. It only takes a couple of minutes to acknowledge the good in your life. Maybe it was a compliment you received, or that you found the perfect parking spot when you were rushing out to do some shopping during your lunch hour. When you tune into all the good around you, then you begin to see how wonderful life is.

Your positive attitude creates an energy that is matched by the universe bringing you more good, more happiness, more relief. Who doesn’t want more of that?
